As the snow begins to melt and winter is almost over, it is time to start thinking about all the things you have to complete around your home this Spring. There are several things inside and outside your home that you should maintain as we approach the warmer months.

Take A Look At The Outside of Your Home

As we begin to enter the first few weeks of spring, it is the perfect time to do a thorough inspection of the outside of your home. Winter snow and cold temperatures are rough on your home. This time of year is great to review the exterior of your home when shrubs and flowers are not in full bloom, obstructing your view. Take time to look around the exterior of your home and make note of anything that needs to be repaired or that you wish to update. After doing a thorough inspection of the outside of your home you can then determine what projects are top priority.

Replace Your HVAC Filter

Replacing your HVAC filter is something you should be doing every quarter. Replacing the HVAC filter will help your air quality inside the home and also help keep the system running properly. This is something that is quick, but can sometimes be forgotten.

Take a Look at Your Roof

Early Spring is a great time to look at your roof. Pay attention to if you see any missing shingles or shifts in the shingles. Look out for any cracks or areas that look worn down. If you are unsure what to look for, it may be best to have a professional inspect your roof to determine if it needs to be replaced.

Clean Your Gutters

During the winter months, storms and wind will cause debris to pile up in your gutters. Take time to clean your gutters and downspouts to allow them to work properly when it rains. Gutters are very important to ensure water is redirected from your home’s foundation.

Inspect Your Windows and Screens

Over the cold winter months, you may have had damage to your windows. Look over all the windows in your home to make sure no windows are cracked or need replaced. It is also important to take a close look at all your window screens before all the bugs come back out. Take time to fix any damaged or broken screens now to keep any unwanted insects outside.

Inspect Your Deck and Patio

The outside deck and patio get a lot of traffic during the winter months so now is a great time to inspect both areas to make sure they do not need any work. Look over your deck to make sure the snow and cold temperatures didn’t cause any boards to bow or nails to pop. If the deck has loose boards be sure to replace them. Make sure your patio is in top shape as well. If the concrete has cracked during the cold months make sure you repair it before it is used more frequently.

Give Your Lawn Some Love

Now is the best time to start raking and dethatching your lawn and paying attention to what it needs.  This time of year, is great to start overseeding or adding fertilizer based off what your lawn needs. Start looking at your yard to determine if there are any bare spots and decide your plan of action for your lawn in the warmer months to give it the best start for the summer.

Tidy Up Your Flower Beds

Spring is the time to start planting most of your beautiful flowers, but before you do, make sure your flower beds are ready. Be sure to add compost or fertilizer where needed and take care of the plants you already have in your flower beds to ensure they are off to a great start this year.

Spring Cleaning

Take time during early spring to do a deep cleaning of the interior of the home. A good spring cleaning is great to keep your home in top shape and help you stay on top of cleaning that piles up over time. Household chores can sometimes be overwhelming, but it is important to do a deep cleaning of your home on top of the daily tasks to keep it in the best shape possible. Spring cleaning can also help you take note of anything inside the home that needs repaired as well.

Spring home maintenance is very important to help you ensure your home is in top shape heading into the warmer months. As the temperatures rise, people begin to spend more time outside so its important to make sure the exterior of your home stays in great shape as well as the interior. Use the tips above as a starting point to help you begin to tackle maintenance projects around your home this Spring.
