Mold can be very scary when it comes to your home. Especially if you are purchasing a home and have no idea if there was previous water damage or even mold that was never removed properly. Consider having a mold inspection completed if you are suspicious there is mold in your home.

Mold can be extremely harmful to an individual’s health or potentially damage a home if undetected or untreated. A mold inspection is a good way to determine if you are at risk in your home or if it is something you can take care of to alleviate added concerns.

What is Mold?

Mold is a fungus that can grow inside and outside your home. Mold spores grow and spread rapidly in humid, warm, and damp conditions. As mold grows it becomes a problem because it can lead to health issues or even begin to damage the home. Mold that is left untreated in a home and not remediated can even cause structural damage to the home. It can potentially cause the structure to weaken and in severe circumstances even cause the home to rot beyond repair. On top of potential damage to the home, mold can be a very serious health concern.

It can cause an allergic reaction in many individuals such as a runny nose, sneezing, red eyes, and skin rash. In more dangerous circumstances mold can also cause asthma attacks and headaches. Having your home tested for mold is typically quick and gives you the reassurance that the air you are breathing does not have unnecessary mold spores causing extensive damage.

Should I get a Mold Inspection Completed?

If you are purchasing a home and can smell mildew or see signs of water damage it is time to schedule a mold inspection. A musty odor is a prime example to schedule a mold inspection, as that smell most likely indicates mold is present. Other things to look for to know it is time for a mold inspection are signs of possible water damage inside and outside the home.

Examples include rot around doors or windows, a leaky roof, a flooded basement, watermarks, wet drywall, or any signs of moisture present. Even if water damage is cleaned up quickly, mold can still be present behind the walls or under the surface. During your residential home inspection, if your home inspector notices signs of mold present in the home or signs of moisture present, they may suggest you have a mold inspection be completed.

How Does a Mold Inspection Work?

Here at Ellingwood Pro, we want you to feel safe in your home. During a mold inspection, our inspector will take samples of the air quality. Once the samples are collected, they are sent off to a lab for testing, and results are typically returned within 3 days. After the results are returned, we will share them with our clients right away and discuss solutions or refer them to mold remediation companies when needed.

Mold inspections are important because not all mold is visible to the naked eye, many times mold is hiding in the walls or living in the air we breathe. If left untreated it will continue to grow and cause more issues. It is best to have a mold inspection to ensure you have the best possible air quality in your home and to remediate any mold that is present prior to causing additional damage. Ellingwood Pro is now offering Mold Inspections as part of their home inspection services. If you are concerned that your current home or the home you are purchasing potentially has mold don’t risk it! Give us a call today to have a mold inspection completed.
